Bayern's win over Freiburg WILL stand despite fielding TWELVE players

Bayern Munich's controversial 4-1 win over Freiburg will stand - despite the league leaders having 12 players on the pitch at one point in the game.

Julian Nagelsmann's side were already two goals ahead when confusion amongst officials led Munich to have an extra player on the field for roughly 20 seconds of the match.

Despite protests from Freiburg fans, the German giants have been spared any punishment after the DFB Sports Court ruled that it was 'misconduct by the referees'.

After the game, Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier said they would 'think about' whether to protest the match - which the club did earlier this week.

Nagelsmann responded: 'From a personal point of view, I can't understand why Freiburg is doing this. I don't know if you can pat yourself on the back if you should play internationally because of three points that you didn't actually win in sport.'

The former RB Leipzig coach can rest easy now knowing that the DFB Sports Court has ruled in favour of the Bundesliga champions and that the three points will remain at the Allianz Arena.

Chairman Stephan Oberholz explained: 'The low proportion of blame on the part of Munich is not enough 'to justify the serious legal consequences of a game revaluation.'

The chaos sparked when Bayern made two substitutions with just under ten minutes of the game remaining.

Niklas Sule was sent on to replace Corentin Tolisso, who was forced off through illness having himself just come on as a substitute.

However, the defender came on before Kingsley Coman, who was subbed at the same time for Marcel Sabitzer had been removed from the field.

This left Bayern with 11 outfielders and the game was momentarily played before the error was spotted.
