Junior Olaitan came off the bench to help Besiktas come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Europa League.
Wilfred Ndidi had given Besiktas the lead on the stroke of half-time before quickfire goals from Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta after the break flipped the script, but Olaitan had the final say, even as the hosts finished the game with 10 men.
With Pierre Sage under increasing pressure, Palace thought they had made a dream start when Mateta picked out the bottom-left corner after six minutes. He latched onto a loose cross, but he had strayed narrowly offside.
Chris Richards' looping header landed on the roof of the net shortly after, before Mateta tamely scuffed a volley into Alexander Nubel's gloves from a corner on the half-hour mark.
Besiktas scored with their first effort on target in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. Ndidi plucked a long ball out of the air and drilled his low shot past Walter Benitez.
However, Palace made a bright start to the second half, and this one was rewarded. They faced a long wait after Pino was flagged offside after he slid in to meet Anan Khalaili's right-sided cross and poke it beyond Nubel, but the 51st-minute equaliser was given following a VAR review.
And Mateta put Palace in front just four minutes later, pouncing on a loose back pass from Tiago Djalo to rifle an emphatic effort into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Sage's team failed to add to their advantage, though, and Olaitan punished them for it as he intercepted a loose Khalaili clearance and skipped past two defenders before sending a skidding shot beyond Benitez in the 73rd minute.
Besiktas set up a nervy ending for themselves four minutes later as Umit Akdag lunged in with a two-footed tackle on Jorgen Strand Larsen, resulting in a straight red card, but the hosts held out for a point.
Sage's worries grow as Palace lack bite
Reports earlier this week suggested Sage's position is looking precarious after Palace were thrashed 5-0 by rivals Brighton in the Premier League, meaning they would have wanted to come away with three points from Tupras Stadyumu.
Mateta's disallowed goal was only marginally offside, but Palace were unable to build momentum afterwards and looked like they had been dealt a hammer blow late in the first half.
But they responded well, with only 259 seconds separating their two goals, which were of quality given Palace only accumulated 0.4 expected goals (xG) overall from their eight attempts.
Their problems this term have been in defence, though, as they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 games on the road in all competitions, shipping a total of 33 goals in that time.
Mateta's first goal of the season is one weight off their shoulders; he has now scored 63 goals in all competitions for Palace, 26 more than any other player since his debut in February 2021 (Eberechi Eze next on 37).
But Besiktas were never going down without a fight as they extended their unbeaten start in the Europa League (W2 D1), while also making it five games without defeat on home soil in Europe (W4 D1 including qualifiers).
