Besiktas boss Senol Gunes says Dele Alli has performed 'below expectations' since Everton move

Dele Alli's career has suffered another setback after he was singled out by the Besiktas manager for performing 'below expectations'.

Alli has found himself in the Turkish Super Lig after his seven-year stint at Spurs came to an end in January and he was sold to Everton. After failing to impress Frank Lampard, he was loaned to the Black Eagles.

The move was intended to reignite the 26-year-old's career but those hopes look to be dwindling after Senol Gunes' recent comments.

Speaking ahead of their grudge match with Galatasaray, new boss Gunes said: 'I couldn't affect the players [yet], now I can easily get through to them, but we haven't got through to Dele Alli yet.

'Let's not discuss Dele Alli as a player, but he is below expectations in terms of efficiency.'

Gunes was only appointed Besiktas coach last week but his brutal take on Alli's performances show the reputation that he's already developed in Turkey.

In his first match in charge against Umraniyespor the England international was hauled off at the break after a disappointing first 45 minutes - despute his side leading 2-1.

The former Spurs star has been largely underwhelming since joining the club and has only got one goal - with no assists - since joining Besiktas in the summer.

He's left a lot to be desired having only made seven appearances for the Black Eagles since completing his loan move - which as a £6m buy-out option - in August.

It looked like the move was going to kick-start his career again after he scored on his second game for the club in a Super Lig clash against Ankaragucu.

The 26-year-old drifted into the box and got on the end of a header from Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst, producing a neat first time finish.

But he's failed to find the back of the net since then in the six Super Lig games that have followed.

After falling out of favour at Tottenham, Alli moved to Everton in January but struggled to break into the first-team line-up and was loaned out after seven months.

It's a sad decline for the player who was one of the country's hottest talents when he burst onto the scene at Tottenham and went on to make 37 appearances for his country.

His best season arguably came in 2016-17 when he scored 18 Premier League goals as Spurs finished second in the table.

However, he was out-of-favour under Antonio Conte after previously struggling to impress at the end of Mauricio Pochettino's reign as manager, followed by Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo's stints in the dug-out.
