Manchester United fans lauded Casemiro after his classy performance in his club's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.
The summer signing put his World Cup disappointment firmly behind him with a superb performance that was encapsulated in the 88th minute. The 30-year-old made one of his many interceptions in midfield before threading the ball through to countryman Fred, who fired home to mark the first-ever time that two Brazilians have linked up for a United goal.
And after the restart, he was tracking back to tackle Emmanuel Dennis at the other end to prevent a shot on goal. Casemiro, who cost around £70m from Real Madrid, made a total of five tackles overall with an 85 per cent pass success rate.
His tackle in the left-back position sparked the attack for Anthony Martial's strike, which made it 2-0. He has been one of the club’s players of the season and the five-time Champions League winner showed why he has enjoyed a trophy-laden career.
He has been the much-needed linchpin for the Reds this season and has been a vital part of Erik ten Hag’s midfield trio alongside Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
United fans acknowledged the shift he had put in and hailed Casemiro for his efforts. Some branded him as the best defensive midfielder in the world while other were still in disbelief he was playing his football at Old Trafford.
