Betting: Copa del Rey outright odds

Unsurprisingly, Spain's big two are the favourites to lift the famous cup once more but our tipster has taken a look at some of the outside bets

Barcelona continue the defence of their Copa del Rey title this week and the Catalans' dominance of the competition in recent years has been extraordinary.

Barca have won each of the last four editions of the tournament and are clear favourites to do so once more.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have only won their domestic cup competition twice since 1993 and last season suffered a disappointing exit at the hands of Leganes, whom they face this week once more in the last 16.

Barcelona are offered at 6/4 (2.50) with 888Sport to lift the trophy for a fifth successive year. Real Madrid for their part can be backed at 9/4 (3.25) to win as they did in 2011 and 2014.

The winners in 2013, Atletico Madrid come next in the betting at 11/2 (6.50) while Sevilla - whose most recent of their five Copa del Rey trophies came in 2010 - are offered at 14/1 (15.00).

The latter stages of the tournament are crammed in over two legs in January so along with La Liga duties, teams that progress in the competition have matches every three days for the first five weeks of the year, so we should expect plenty of rotation.

Only Real Madrid and Barcelona have squads deep enough to compete realistically on three fronts, with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Sevilla likely to prioritise the Champions League and La Liga respectively.

While Barcelona and Madrid are naturally the favourites, there could be some value in backing a decent mid-table La Liga team without any European commitments to have a good run.

To that end the odds of 66/1 (67.00) for Getafe could be worthy of a value bet or an each-way consideration, with 888Sport joint best-priced on the side from the south of Madrid.

Pepe Bordalas' men are one of the best defensive outfits in Europe and have a winnable last 16 tie against Valladolid this week.

Sitting seventh in the league table, they are already close to securing their primary objective of safety for the season and having been Copa finalists in 2007 and 2008, as well as semi-finalists in 2010, Los Azulones have a decent recent cup pedigree.
