Harry Kane moved up to sixth in the list of top England scorers of all-time after a successful international break saw him net four times in two games.
A hat-trick against Montenegro – his second treble in Euro 2020 qualifying – was followed up by another strike in Kosovo, and bet365 now make the Tottenham forward just 1/5 (1.20) to become England’s record scorer.
The goal against Kosovo on Sunday took his tally to an incredible 32 goals in just 45 appearances, putting him 21 strikes behind Wayne Rooney’s record, which has only stood since 2016.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “We were 5/1 about Kane overtaking Rooney’s tally of 53 when he fired England to the World Cup just over two years ago and with Euro 2020 a lot closer to home, he looks to have the perfect opportunity to eat away at another record.”
Kane started this international break in 12th place on the list, level with Steve Bloomer on 28 goals, but his four strikes took him above the likes of Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer into sixth place.
The Three Lions captain drew a blank at Euro 2016 but has gone from strength-to-strength since then, scoring 25 times in his last 28 appearances – including six at the 2018 World Cup.
He is currently top scorer in Euro 2020 qualifying with 12 goals, becoming the first England player to score in every game of a qualifying campaign, and will hope to carry his form into next summer’s tournament.
At the age of just 26, there is little to suggest Kane will not break Rooney’s record in due course, especially if he is able to replicate his World Cup form in Euro 2020.
England are 9/2 (5.50) second-favourites to win the tournament for the first time, behind world champions France at 4/1 (5.0), with home advantage no doubt a factor for the Three Lions.
Although the tournament is being played in a variety of different countries across Europe, all three of England‘s group matches will be played at Wembley.
The semi-finals and final will also be played there, and should Gareth Southgate’s men win their group, they will be rewarded with a last-16 fixture in Dublin.
