Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first defeat at Old Trafford and the bookmakers aren't optimstic about the Red Devils' chances of progression
Despite a gamble emerging on Manchester United to beat Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford, the money proved to be wide of the mark.
Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe in the second half gave Thomas Tuchel's side a commanding 2-0 advantage to take back to the French capital.
United started the match at Old Trafford as 27/20 (2.35) favourites, well backed from 5/2 (3.50) when the last 16 draw was made in December.
A combination of a change of manager, much improved domestic form and injuries to key players such as Neymar and Edinson Cavani saw punters put their faith in the hosts to take a first leg advantage but to no avail.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his first game in charge as PSG became the first French club to beat the Red Devils at Old Trafford in European competition.
Previously sides from across the channel had lost 10 and drawn four of their encounters at the iconic stadium, and this was just PSG's second competitive win in England on what was their 11th match there.
None of the previous 34 teams to lose the first leg of a Champions League knockout match at home by two or more goals have progressed to the next round. With that in mind, it's unsurprising to see William Hill make United huge 20/1 (21.0) underdogs to turn the tie around.
Those siding with PSG were assured of a match odds payout when Kimpembe struck the opener thanks to William Hill's Golden Goal promotion. This sees the team who scores the first goal in selected matches paid out as the winner of the game regardless of the result after 90 minutes.
As if the task wasn't big enough from two goals down, the visitors will be without the influential Paul Pogba after the midfielder was shown a red card in the dying minutes of an ill-tempered clash. Referee Daniele Orsato handed out nine yellow cards as well as giving Pogba his marching orders.
PSG are made 11/20 (1.55) favourites to win the second leg with United priced at an industry-best 5/1 (6.0) with William Hill. A draw would be enough to secure the Ligue 1 champions a spot in the quarter-finals and that is a 7/2 (4.50) shot at the time of writing.
Having failed in their quest for European glory in previous campaigns, PSG are now 5/1 (6.0) from 13/2 (7.50) to win the Champions League while United have drifted to as big as 125/1 (126.0) in places.

Man United is no match for PSG. You can remove Mbappe, Di Maria and Verrati and Man U can still lose by 4 goals. I cannot believe some people think Man U is a competitor in UCL, they are not competitors even in England. And Ole didn't lose this game, Man U did. He actually just have 1/100 percentage of quality players in that team.
one match lost and you forgot what United is!!! You are disgrace as a united fan..

UTD are known to deconstruct even the best in the game but since they have reduced to the level of Sevilla after Fergy's departure, you can celebrate losing 2 nil to PSG at home.

PSG had players in the second squad better than ours bc their owners and board invest well into their club and their club is ahead of ours with their resources. We keep having the same issue with our Deadwood every year

Hey Mr Tuchel, Man Utd did have a plan to win the Champions League but it required PSG not to try, for Kylian Mbappe not to run so fast & for Angel Di Maria not to want revenge.

Mine too. His contract runs to season end, let's see where we are then and go from there. Ole is showing what we'll get; anyone else has to start from page 1. No disgrace losing to a team like PSG............at half time.

Absolutely shocking AGAIN from @ManUtd why we donβt stick the away fans above where they are now up top is a mystery still. Sorry you had to go through that Vicky, PSG fans are a vile breed. I walk home past the coaches where they were getting on and was pelted with all sorts.

Donβt forget that PSG won Barcelona and then Barcelona bounced back. Imagine if this happens to @ManUtd But yeah this was Barcelona and we are a team without our #1 player. Hope we can turn things around on the 2nd legππΌ

The truth is if this was Jose we would have lost this game too by parking the bus and looking hopeless...We lost but we tried...Oleβs start everyone thought this was an easy tie but Champions League is more about discipline and PSG looked a well drilled side...

Man Utd was much weaker than PSG. There is nothing about this team. There is no game. They had to fit once. Paris did not have to force and that's why 8 or 9 is too much. It was good not too hard and prestigious draw desired

Man Utd may have the tractor sponsorship, but PSG sure ploughed them.

No PSG had a weaker bench consisting of unknown youths like Dagba, Nkunku & Diaby while ours was star studded. Deadwood & the stingy board are not to blame for yester night's defeat bcs we had a stronger side than them we only needed proper tactics to win it but Ole was clueless!
