Betting Tips: Derby County vs Wigan Athletic

Frank Lampard's side are looking to halt a slide of three straight Championship defeats, but goals look unlikely to flow freely as the Latics visit

Derby County's hopes of promotion to the Premier League seem to the fading by the week.

Just two wins from nine Championship games since the turn of the year have seen the Rams fall out of the play-off places and included a 4-0 drubbing at Aston Villa last time out.

A win over Wigan on Tuesday would move Frank Lampard's side level with sixth-place Bristol City though. Despite their poor form, 888Sport make the Derby 10/11 (1.91) favourites at Pride Park.

That odds-on quote is largely attributed to the visitors' abysmal away record. Just six points from 17 matches on the road this term see Wigan as 17/5 (4.40) outsiders with the draw priced at 43/20 (3.15).

It's difficult to trust Derby at 10/11 (1.91), even with Wigan's poor form on the road considered. Instead, it could pay dividends to side with a tight game in the East Midlands.

Neither team are prolific. Despite the Rams still being in the play-off mix, they boast a bottom-half attack having netted just 43 times this term and have lacked potency in recent weeks.

Wigan rank 21st of 24 teams in this metric with 33 goals, and only 12 of those goals have come away from the DW Stadium.

Under 2.5 goals looks worthy of consideration with 888Sport but at 4/6 (1.67) it's unlikely to appeal to most punters as a single wager.

Instead, backing "No" in the both teams to score market pays 17/20 (1.85) and this is a bet that has paid out in five of Derby's last six league matches.

The Rams look devoid of confidence and were 4-0 down by half time at Villa Park on Saturday. They will be desperate to get back to winning ways, but Wigan have shown some fight in recent weeks and should put up some stern resistance against an attack that has netted just three times in six league games.

The reverse fixture ended 1-0 to Derby and a repeat at Pride Park would see this selection pay out once more at 17/20 (1.85) with 888Sport.
