Betting Tips: Lyon vs Barcelona

The Spanish champions play their first game in the knockout stages of this season's Champions League and we think there will be plenty of goals

Barcelona travel to Lyon on Tuesday evening with Ernesto Valverde's side aiming to claim a win in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

The Camp Nou outfit come into the game in somewhat indifferent form by their high standards. Barca ended a run of three consecutive draws on Saturday night by beating Valladolid 1-0 in La Liga, but some doubts remain over the Spanish champions.

Lyon, for their part, have enjoyed some big wins this season. The French side won 2-1 at Manchester City on matchday one of the Champions League and, more recently, beat Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 two weeks ago.

Lyon are clear outsiders for the clash with SportPesa pricing a home win at 33/10 (4.30).

Barcelona have only won three of their last ten away games in the Champions League, although two of those victories have come this term. The Catalans are offered at 10/13 (1.77) with the draw available at 29/10 (3.90).

Barca are missing midfielder Arthur Melo and defender Thomas Vermaelen for the trip to France. Lyon are without suspended forward Nabil Fekir while Tanguy Ndombele and Jason Denayer are both injury doubts.

Lyon have shown this season they are capable with competing against the continent's best teams and in the Champions League they have scored plenty of goals.

Bruno Genesio's side, however, are yet to keep a clean sheet in the competition with no side in the last 16 conceding more goals in the group stages than Lyon.

Like their French opponents, Barcelona have scored in every game in the Champions League this term and there is plenty of reason for us to think that they will contribute to another high-scoring encounter.

Barca have conceded in their three away so this season in the competition whilst Lyon have scored two goals in each of their three home matches and are priced at a healthy looking 17/10 (2.70) to do so once more.

The smart money, however. should be going on both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 5/6 (1.83), which looks a strong selection for this clash.
