Betting Tips: Newcastle vs Burnley

With Sean Dyche's men enjoying a long Premier League unbeaten streak, our tipster does not expect the Magpies to come away with maximum points

Newcastle and Burnley will both be aiming to put more distance between themselves and the drop zone when they meet at St James’ Park on Tuesday.

Rafa Benitez’s men are now four points clear of the 18th-placed Southampton after overcoming Huddersfield 2-0 at the weekend.

Having run out 2-1 winners in November’s reverse fixture, the home side are priced at 11/10 (2.10) to leapfrog their guests with another victory here.

However, the Clarets secured a shock win over Tottenham last time out to extend their unbeaten league run to eight matches, and can be backed at 3/1 (4.00) to maintain the feel-good factor by coming out on top.

The previous two Premier League meetings between this pair at this ground have both resulted in draws, and you can get odds of 12/5 (3.40) on this one also finishing up all square.

Jonjo Shelvey will be hoping to take his place in the squad after returning to full training, leaving only Ciaran Clark and Rob Elliot as injury absentees.

Robbie Brady and Joey Berg Gudmundsson will both be pushing for a place in the starting line-up after returning to action from the bench against Spurs, although Aaron Lennon, Steven Defour and Jonathan Walters remain injured.

While the hosts have won three consecutive matches in front of their own fans, this stadium should hold little fear for Sean Dyche’s team.

Only Manchester United have gone more matches without defeat than their run of eight games, and the Red Devils’ unbeaten streak would have ended at seven but for two late goals in a 2-2 draw at home to Burnley.

With the Magpies unlikely to take too many risks in what could be described as a relegation six-pointer, odds of 3/4 (1.75) look like solid value on the confident visitors at least avoiding defeat for the third trip to this ground in a row.
