Betting: United 7/4 to win trophy next season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new permanent deal but with silverware unlikely this term, the pressure will be on in his first full campaign

Manchester United are 7/4 (2.75) to win a major trophy next season after the club appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis.

The Norwegian was handed a three-year deal on Thursday morning after a stellar run of results since he took over the club as caretaker in December, winning 14 out of 19 games.

United look set to go without silverware this season, unless they can defy William Hill’s enhanced 25/1 (26.0) price on them winning the Champions League, and Solskjaer will be determined to make up for that next term.

For the purposes of this market, a major trophy is defined as the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup or Carabao Cup.

Whilst Solskjaer has certainly turned things around at Old Trafford, taking 32 Premier League points out of a possible 39, there are still areas on the pitch that need addressing.

Defence is one of those, considering, United have kept just five clean sheets under their new boss, and it is 2/1 (3.0) that they break their transfer record of £89.3 million this summer.

Considering how much Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk, who has transformed the Reds' defence, it is not out of the question that United follow suit by splashing out on a commanding defender.

It is 9/2 (5.50) that Gareth Bale leaves Real Madrid for Old Trafford after six years in the Spanish capital, which could feasibly top that £89.3 million depending on the La Liga club’s demands.
