Birmingham City will step up efforts to sign Wolves defender Dion Sanderson on a permanent basis in the January window.

The impressive centre back has been part of a defence that boasts the second best defensive record in the Championship.

Wolves received bids over £1m from Sunderland in the summer window that were subsequently turned down.

However, Birmingham feel, with the inevitable sale of England U19 midfielder and Leeds target George Hall in January, they will have the necessary funds required to prise Sanderson away from Molineux.

The 22-year old, who has had previous loan spells with Cardiff City, Sunderland and QPR, has made 19 appearances for Birmingham this season and scored once.

He is the nephew of former Olympic javelin champion Tessa Sanderson.
