Blackburn Rovers are in talks to appoint former Celtic head scout John Park as their new director of football.

Vastly experienced Park was the man credited with uncovering Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk for Celtic prior to their big money moves to England and has recently been working as head of international recruitment with Polish club Legia Warsaw.

His first major task is likely to be handling Southampton's interest in Blackburn's star striker Adam Armstrong.

The Championship side value the prolific 24-year-old striker at around £20million but he has only one year remaining on contract while his previous club Newcastle hold a 40 percent sell-on clause.

Southampton had an opening bid rejected but made an improved offer on Wednesday of £10million plus players for Armstrong.

The cash is crucial to manager Tony Mowbray who knows Park from his time at Celtic.

Blackburn had high hopes of mounting a promotion challenge last season after making some astute loan deals and Park will need to be even more creative this summer.

Midfielder Corry Evans has left for Sunderland while Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott has returned to Anfield and is hoping to make a big impression on Jurgen Klopp during their training camp in Austria this week.
