Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has urged co-owner Todd Boehly not to sell Mason Mount this summer despite the club's need to raise funds

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has been encouraged not to sell Mason Mount this summer as the midfielder continues to be linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool. Former Blues goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has told his former employers they will regret offloading the Cobham graduate, believing he remains a "phenomenal player".

Mount's Chelsea contract is set to expire in just over 12 months' time, with discussions over an extension having hit a standstill as the two parties appear far from settling on an agreement. Despite the 24-year-old reportedly keen on staying at Stamford Bridge, he and the club have bene unable to agree terms over an extended deal.

However, Schwarzer still believes the club would be making a big mistake by selling the England international. "He’s [Mount] almost unsellable," he told Sky Sports.

"He’s a player you would not sell. He’s a Chelsea kid through and through. He’s been at the club all his life.

"That’s what fans die for. Fans love that. He’s such an incredible player. I certainly would not be selling him as he is such a phenomenal player."

This campaign has been far from Mount's best at Chelsea, reflected in his goals tally of three. However, that hasn't stopped the prospective suitors lining up to swoop in if his contract saga remains unsolved.

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter was recently quizzed about Mount's future and there seemed to be an acceptance the midfielder could call time on his reign at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

"Yes but I am not naive," Potter replied when asked if he wanted Mount to stay earlier this month. "I know it is an important time for him and an important contract. These things have to be right for him and his family. It's important he makes a decision on that basis.

"My feelings for Mason are clear. He is a fantastic person firstly, but sometimes these things happen. They are just complicated and it is best that I speak little about it, let them get on with it in deciding what is right for both parties."
