Yannick Bolasie has accepted he has no future at Everton and is hoping to secure another loan move before the transfer window closes.
The Congolese winger exercised his right to cut short a season-long loan at Aston Villa earlier this week but he had not told Everton head coach Marco Silva about his intentions.
Bolasie has returned to Goodison Park aware that Silva has four wingers ahead of him and, as a result, he will seek a move before the deadline.
Crystal Palace – who sold him to Everton in the summer of 2016 for £25million – would be his preferred destination but Middlesbrough are also an option.
Whatever happens, Bolasie has been told by Silva that he cannot expect to figure for Everton before the end of the season and it would be best to find a new club.
'Until now we have had no enquiries,' said Silva, whose side face Millwall in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
'We will do what is the best solution for him and us as a club. We have four wingers in our squad, we are happy with them. What I don't want is for Bolasie not to play again.
'It doesn't mean I have already decided what will happen. Let's see what will happen at the end of the market.
'When he took the decision to come back we didn't expect it, even though he has that option in his contract. Let's see what will happen in the next few days.'
Bolasie made a bright start to his Everton career but he suffered a horrific knee injury in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in December 2016 that led to 12 months on the sidelines and he struggled to recapture form when Sam Allardyce played him last season.
Silva has never had space for him in his plans and explained: 'For sure, he knows (he won't play).
'I took that decision last summer because I realised that it would be difficult for him to get the minutes he wants.
'At that moment, it was difficult for him because he lost 2-3 weeks again due to his knee in pre-season and when we took the decision [to let him leave on loan] we expect the player to go and play. Let's see if he can do it here or at a different club.'
Whether Bolasie leaves on loan will have no bearing on whether Everton make a signing of their own before January 31, with Silva reaffirming the club's position and saying: 'If someone leaves the club then we have the option to bring in some players. If not, it will be difficult.'

At least he left us (Villa) 75 grand a week better off!! Moderate player at best - definitely not Premiership standard and on his showings for us not really Championship material either!

He might be chasing a move, but he struggles to chase the ball these days.
