Claudio Bravo could get another season at Manchester City , with his future currently undecided.
That was the message from football director Txiki Begiristain who said that the Blues have been “delighted” with the way the 36-year-old goalkeeper has bounced back from a career-threatening achilles tendon rupture.
Bravo has only played in the Community Shield win over Liverpool – when he was man of the match - and the Carabao Cup victory at Preston this season, after missing virtually the whole of last season with the injury.
He has one year left on his contract, and it was widely thought that he would leave next summer when it expires.
But Begiristain is quoted in Chilean newspaper El Mercurio as saying “There is absolutely nothing decided. The experience has been fantastic.
“You have to remember that he has been injured for a year and this is not seen in one or two months.
“After that time, we will make a joint decision, which depends on the two parties, because there is our decision and then there is his, but I want to make it clear that there is nothing settled. Today, we are delighted with him.”
Begiristain also said that Bravo stayed at the club in preparation for his career once his playing days are over.
“He is preparing for the future. He could have gone to another club to play every game,” said Begiristain.
“Here, he is taking all the experience, he is collecting everything he has lived through, especially in Barcelona and Manchester, to become a great coach, sports director or goalkeeper coach - you have to ask him.”

Bravo's biggest mistake was leaving Barcelona

Bravo is still the better choice for us. I think both parties won

Bravo left on his own accord. Which is why I said it was his biggest mistake. He was still going to be barca's first choice if he didn't leave.

It obvious Bravo left because of MATS's ultimatum. Why would he leave Barca for City if he thought there was even a small chance for him to be first choice at Barca?

Being in your prime why would Bravo let a 20 something year old bully you out? That's something you'll have to ask Bravo. He had his reasons. We can only speculate at this point.

Because MATS forced Barca's hand; make Bravo the #1 or he's gone and they made the (correct)decision and went with MATS. Bravo, as you said in his prime bet on himself to be the #1 somewhere else. I struggle to understand how you can classify that as a wrong decision from Bravo's point of view at the time.

Bravo left but was under no obligation to look for another team since he was the undisputed #1 in Barca. So I'm saying it was a mistake to leave a undisputed spot to gamble elsewhere. And it clearly was.

In other news, Man City are also buying the starting USMNT GK.

Yeah, no other reason for staying at that club.

Bravo's been a City player for 6+ months but remained at Columbus. Now he's going to Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan next season though it seems since Bravo isn't leaving.

Bravo honestly has no real future at City because he's going to be too good and to young to be just a cup keeper on a long-term basis. He'll be loaned out for awhile and then sold at a heavy profit like Gunn.

How does Bravo have nothing to prove? Doesn't matter what he did before but when he joined City he was the worst keeper in the league, back up goalkeepers who played a decent amount of games were better than him. He was genuienely mid table Championship quality, it was astonishing how bad he was and he cost City a crazy amount of points. Teams in the championship had better performing keepers than him. There's no way after a season like that you can say he has nothing to prove

But Bravo did redeem himself. He was the reason City won the Carabao Cup in 2017-18. The amount of crucial saves he made, not to mention his performances during penalty shootouts are more than enough for him to rest his laurels on.

Only if Bravo learnt how to save shots from open play...
