Brazil are not expected to wear their classic yellow shirt when they face England at Wembley on Saturday.
The five-time World Cup winners are in London, training at Arsenal’s London Colney complex, ahead of this weekend’s prestige friendly against Gareth Southgate’s side.
But the South American’s are set to wear their alternative blue away strip for the game, in a move that is likely to leave football’s traditionalists disappointed.
Brazil’s home strip is arguably the most iconic in world football with the shirt symbolic of some of the greatest footballers ever to have played the game.
The prospect of their current crop walking out at Wembley in its famous yellow would have invoked memories of famous historic clashes between the two nations - most notably the World Cup cup clash of 1970, the setting for Gordon Banks’ miraculous save from Pele.
Similarly, Brazil were in yellow, and England in their famous white their strip, in the World Cup quarter-final of 2002 when David Seaman was audaciously lobbed by Ronaldinho as Sven Goran-Eriksson’s side crashed out of the tournament.
On both occasions, Brazil went on to become world champions.
Brazil have worn yellow at Wembley on their previous six meetings at the national stadium, though they wore blue when they faced England in London in 1990 - Gary Lineker scoring to secure a 1-0 win for Bobby Robson’s men.
It is unclear why Brazil, who have a long term kit partnership with Nike, have decided against wearing their traditional colours this weekend, particularly when there is no obvious clash.
But sportswear companies often use friendly matches as an opportunity to parade and market different jerseys.
Brazil and Nike released their latest kits at the start of the week ahead of this summer’s Copa America.
Brazil face Spain on next week where they could debut their new yellow jersey.
