Brighton have renewed their interest in Stuttgart's forward Nicolas Gonzalez.
The Seagulls are weighing up a fresh attempt to sign the versatile 23-year-old Argentina international who they were also keen on a year ago.
Brighton finished 16th last season, 13 points clear of the bottom three.
But they scored just 40 goals in 38 league games and have prioritised improving their attack this summer with Gonzalez one name on their radar.
Brighton held talks to sign Gonzalez last summer after he scored 15 goals in 29 games for Stuttgart, with three further assists, to help them gain promotion from Germany's second tier.
Brighton valued Gonzalez - quick and capable of playing anywhere across the frontline - at around £10m but Stuttgart were holding out for £16m.
Gonzalez's 2020/21 Bundesliga season was disrupted by injury but he chipped in with six goals and two assists in 15 appearances, along with two goals in two games for Argentina.
Gonzalez signed a new contract until 2024, strengthening Stuttgart's position, but is understood to be keen on a move to Brighton.
