At the end of this month it would have been a quarter of a century since Bristol City had beaten Premier League opposition in the FA Cup. Josh Brownhill saw to it that the wait is now over.
In the first hour of this one, the magic of the Cup was nonexistent. This was grim reality.
Then the ball dropped to Brownhill in the box, he twisted, he turned, and he fired past Ben Hamer.
For David Wagner, who made eight alterations to the side that lost to Burnley, this was another bad day out amid a historic league losing run.
This game seemed like it would be defined by comedy moments for a long period.
Ben Hamer somehow played a goal kick out for a corner after 20 minutes. Laurent Depoitre, a striker who has not scored any goals at all this season, sent a shot over from four yards out.
But changes at half-time changed the tone of the game. Wagner threw on Alex Pritchard and Steve Mounie in a bid to avoid a replay.
It was Huddersfield who began the second period better. The impressive Chris Lowe fired wide after bursting into the box. Jonathan Hogg shanked a shot wide from the edge of the area. Mounie even saw a lob over Niki Maenpaa cleared off the line.
But it was the hosts that eventually broke the deadlock.
A 72nd minute corner came in, was cleared twice, and then the ball fell to Brownhill. He eventually worked it onto his left boot. Hamer got down to meet his low strike but could not stop it from bouncing into the back of his net.
And that, barring a goalmouth scramble in front of the Bristol net in added time, was pretty much that.
They’re holding a dinner here for the class of 1994 on January 24. That side beat Liverpool at Anfield.
While they’re unlikely to commemorate this win against bottom of the Premier League Huddersfield with an event in 2044, at least they have a still chance to make new memories in the Cup this season.
This loss, for Huddersfield, is one to forget.

These wins are not shocks anymore, apart from the top 6 the prem looks like the championship and their players are on the same level

we went and won on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke this week and now won against another Premier League team which our record over the last two seasons has been impressive. We are also now 9 games unbeaten so on paper it is all looking good but yet not all the fans at the club are behind the manager due to his style of football which does not see many chances being creative but as it showed today that as long as you can score once and keep a clean sheet I guess it doesnt matter

Bristol City have done well in cups over the last year. As a Bristol City and Arsenal fan from Bristol, I hope they draw each other in the next round. I was disappointed the League Cup final last season wasn't Arsenal v Bristol City.

Been a town fan since 1975 and this is starting to look terminal.... has to be one of the worst transfer windows last summer I've ever seen, just totally lacking in any self belief throughout the team currently.
