Bristol City have made an offer to sign PEC Zwolle defender Kenneth Paal.

The left-back's contract expires at the end of the month and the Championship side have made a move to take Paal on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old was an regular for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie last season, making 25 appearances for the club.

Barnsley have also shown an interest in Paal, who is a product of PSV's youth academy - but it is City who have made the first move.

The Tykes made a £650,000 offer last summer to try to sign the former Holland Under-17 star but he remained at the MACPARK Stadion.

Zwolle finished bottom of the Dutch top tier last season with 27 points and the side will now be demoted to the Eerste Divisie.

In 2021, amid interest from Scottish giants Celtic, Paal said: '[Celtic is] such a big club, with such a history, that's always nice to hear. That just shows that you're doing a good job.

'As it stands now, I will be a PEC player next season. I've always said that (I want to play in England). That's where I get the most out of my game. The Championship... is a great competition. I would like to experience that one day.'

As it stands, Pearson has Jay Dasilva and Cameron Pring as left-back options in his squad.
