Bruno Fernandes could be in stands for Manchester United's visit to Liverpool on Sunday as talks continue over the Sporting Lisbon captain's transfer.

United are moving to secure the transfer of midfielder Fernandes for a fee in principle of £50million rising to £65m.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes has been drafted in to accelerate a deal, and was in the Old Trafford directors' box for United's 1-0 win over Wolves in Wednesday night's FA Cup third-round replay.

But Sporting want to hold on to Fernandes until at least Friday, as they want him available for their Primeira Liga derby against biggest rivals Benfica.

But according to Portuguese publication A Bola, Fernandes could be at Anfield on Sunday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side attempt to slow down Liverpool's title charge and bridge the five-point gap to the Premier League's top four.

Fernandes, who has scored eight goals and notched seven assists in 15 Primeira Liga games this season, will be a welcome addition to United's midfield, especially with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay currently injured.
