Paul Scholes has criticised Bruno Fernandes for being 'too soft' during Manchester United's 4-2 victory over Leeds on Sunday afternoon.
Fernandes was responsible for giving the ball away during the build-up to Raphinha's goal. He was seen calling for a free-kick after Adam Forshaw's challenge left him sitting on the grass.
Scholes believes Fernandes was 'looking for a foul before anything had even happened' and that he should have done more to stop Leeds' equaliser.
Manchester United took a two-goal lead at Elland Road thanks to Harry Maguire and Fernandes.
However, Rodrigo and Raphinha managed to pull Leeds level with two goals in the space of two minutes.
Scholes says Fernandes should have been 'stronger' in the middle of the park in the build-up to Raphinha's equaliser.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Scholes said: 'I think Fernandes has to be stronger. He's almost looking for a foul before anything happens and I don't think it is a foul.
'Fernandes has got to be stronger there, that's a little bit too soft. His head is up in the air looking for a foul before he comes in.'
Meanwhile, the Portugal international insisted he was fouled - claiming his left foot was 'stamped on'.
'I think it was a foul because when I passed the ball with my right foot he stamped on my left,' he told MUTV after the game.
'Obviously, I didn't see if he touched the ball when I made the pass. It's England, no? It's English football so I have to get used to it, it's okay.'
Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick also shared some insight into what the referee had to say about the foul of Fernandes.
The interim boss said: 'For me, as somebody coming from Germany, there were quite a few tackles that in Germany there would've been no discussion whatsoever.
'I spoke to the referee after the game about that tackle on Bruno before they scored the equaliser and I said, 'listen, in Germany, they wouldn't have even asked VAR' and the referee said to me, quite funnily, 'listen, this is probably why you had to come to England'.
'We did well, we showed character and this was important after the results of yesterday. We had to win the game and I hope that not only the win but the way we achieved the win will give us new additional energy for the upcoming games on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid and the next Premier League game against Watford at home.'

Players have to protect themselves and I would not call it “SOFT”. You don’t go down next time it’s a broken legs. He was unlucky that it ended up to scoring a goal.

Fernandes goes down everytime someone brushes him aside or the wind is strong. The theatrical reactions are pathetic and show his immaturity. De Gea was bought down by his own teammate in a clumsy way and he stayed down and let in a goal, which was fcuking embarrassing. Football was once a high contact sport, now these crybabies start whining the moment they lose possession. Pathetic!
Could not agree more mate
