Bruno Fernandes got visibly emotional when praised by a reporter for his dedication to Manchester United after the Red Devils' dramatic 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag's side enjoyed an afternoon few associated with the Old Trafford club will soon forget, as they conjured the spirit of yesteryear to triumph over their arch-rivals.
Skipper Fernandes played all 120 minutes of the enthralling tie, which was won at the death by Amad Diallo, starting in his usual central midfield position before moving into a defensive role as fatigue and injury hampered his forward movement.
The Portuguese midfielder hailed the contribution of several of his teammates including two of the goalscorers - Diallo and Antony - before getting visibly emotional after receiving the adulation of a MUTV reporter for his availability and commitment to the cause.
'You've been a kind captain there, giving everybody a bit of praise, so I'm going to give some to you,' he said.
'You are always available for this team. You always give everything that you can physically. It is appreciated by the fans all the way around the stadium. I hope you know how much you are loved by the fans.'
Taken aback by his words, Fernandes replied: 'I appreciate that. You've got me a little bit emotional because there are good and bad moments, but I am always there for them.'
United took an early lead through Scott McTominay before the Reds hit back with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah before the break. The away side had ample opportunities to put the tie to bed but were made to rue their complacency when Antony scored just his second goal of the season in 87th minute to take the game to extra-time.
Jurgen Klopp's men again stole the advantage with a deflected effort from Harvey Elliot at the end of the first period. Only for Marcus Rashford to find the net from his third presentable chance ahead of Diallo's 121st minute winner that quickly made way for euphoric celebrations.
Fernandes was also keen to highlight the impact of under-fire manager Ten Hag. The Dutchman's position at the helm of the club looks increasingly uncertain following the minority stake purchased by Sir Jim Ratcliffe last month.
'The first 30 minutes were amazing and he [Ten Hag] said we should get back, have composure to get on the ball and be brave again, not fear the result was going against us,' he added.
'He wanted us to show ourselves, give options and have belief because we’ve done it many times coming back from bad results and we will do it again, that was the message.'
United's reward for the victory is a semi-final against Coventry at Wembley next month.

He's so soft. Need to be strong and fight.
he's better being soft the way he plays rather going hard then get injured. being soft saves him from injury... that's why he is always available to play the next match

I don’t know why folks give Bruno flack. Bruno is our best player. I see him working hard every time. Never giving up. Most of us think he looks ridiculous doing it. Ok. If all of the team runs after the ball, we can recover it. But honestly, l like his approach.

u don't watch football for saying that. can u compare Bruno with his fellow attacking midfielder in other top clubs. they removed him at the heart of midfield and u think manutd won Liverpool by luck. they won liverpool because Bruno was the problem all along. he complains alot more than his contribution to the team. manutd will be great only when they find replacement for Bruno but the funny thing is they are not even trying to replace him.
