Burnley join Sheffield United in becoming a 'one and done' Premier League side following their relegation from the top flight.
Vincent Kompany's side were dealt a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday which sealed their fate inside the bottom three of the Premier League for the campaign.
Going into Saturday's match at Tottenham, the Clarets were in the most precarious position behind relegation-threatened rivals Luton Town and Nottingham Forest.
Burnley's 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle last Saturday left them five points from safety with a goal difference that is 17 worse than Forest's.
Kompany's side had to win in the capital and hope Chelsea win at the City Ground - but that second scenario proved irrelevant after losing to Spurs.
They made a dream start by taking a surprise lead but goals from Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven extinguished hopes of a great escape as Burnley now start planning for life back in the second tier.
Jacob Bruun Larsen had struck for the Clarets in the first-half but Spurs' defenders fired back to ensure that Burnley will play in the Championship next season.
Following the defeat in north London, they find themselves 19th in the table - two points behind Luton and five points behind Forest.
