Marcus Edwards believes Burnley have to “keep their confidence up” if they are to build on the momentum gained from their 1-1 draw away to Liverpool.
Edwards heroically lasered in the equaliser into the bottom corner after 65 minutes to cancel out Florian Wirtz’s first-half opener and snatch an unlikely point for the 19th-placed Clarets at Anfield.
While Liverpool dominated proceedings in the first half, with Dominik Szoboszlai sending a penalty crashing into the crossbar and Cody Gakpo seeing an effort cleared off the line, Burnley responded well after the break.
The visitors did survive a late scare, however, as Hugo Ekitike saw a potential winner ruled out for offside.
“It was key that we played our football and stayed patient because we know they are a good side,” Edwards told Premier League Productions.
“We know Anfield is a tough place to come and we know they are going to have loads of attacks, so it was about staying patient, keeping our shape and playing our football when we can.
“I think we’ve got to keep having confidence, keep knowing we can win games, come to Anfield and win points. We’ve just got to keep that confidence up.”
After failing to score or assist in any of his first six Premier League appearances for Burnley, Edwards has turned a new corner, picking up three goal involvements across his last six games (one goal, two assists).
The Clarets remain winless in their last 13 league games – their longest such run in the Premier League – though they have lost only two of their last six (D4), having been beaten in each of the seven before that.
Reflecting on the contest itself, Edwards added: “[The first-half] was very difficult but that’s football.
“You get some moments in the game, you’re not going to always have the ball. The first half was difficult, and it was a difficult game.
“We corrected a few things that we showed on tape [at half-time] and we instantly we felt a difference in the second half.”
“I was annoyed at the last chance I had and messed up. When I saw the ball come across me, I said, ‘I’m going to hit this in the bottom corner’ and I did.”
