Atletico Madrid have put clean air between themselves and the rest of the pack chasing the LaLiga table-toppers after winning a hard-fought match away at Cadiz 4-2.

The result is even sweeter for Atletico moving 10 points clear with a game in hand over bitter city rivals Real Madrid, who are in second place. The plaudits continue as the win over Cadiz was Atletico's eighth consecutive league victory.

An action-packed game saw Luis Suarez continue to prove why Barcelona were crazy to let him go to the Spanish capital for free.

At 34 years old, Suarez is rampantly defying the critics as he is LaLiga's top scorer, with an astonishing 14 goals in 16 appearances thanks to two more goals against Cadiz on Sunday.

Suarez gave Atletico the lead in the 28th minute with a curling free-kick which was cancelled out by Cadiz forward Alvaro Negredo seven minutes later before Saul Niguez restored the visitors' advantage moments before the break.

Cadiz had a strong penalty claim turned down on the stroke of half-time when Madrid's Koke blocked the ball with his hand while on the ground but the visitors got a spot-kick just after the break which Suarez converted.

Negredo reduced the deficit to one goal with a scrappy strike in the 71st minute and Atletico were pegged back in their area for a long spell, before Koke struck in the 88th to clinch victory for Diego Simeone's side.
