Moises Caicedo has worsened Liam Rosenior's headache after becoming the second Chelsea star to leave the door open to a move to Real Madrid.
The £115million midfielder, 24, insisted he is not thinking about leaving London yet but refused to close off a future switch to the Spanish giants.
Given that Rosenior has just banned Enzo Fernandez for two games for saying he would like to live in Madrid 'very much', Caicedo is arguably playing with fire.
When asked about playing for Los Blancos, Caicedo smiled and told Madrid-leaning newspaper AS: 'You never know in football, don't you think?
'I have a contract with Chelsea now. The truth is, I haven't honestly thought about another club, about leaving London, but well, in the end, you never know in football.
'All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows.
'After that, we'll see what happens. I have a contract, but we'll see what the future holds. Let's see what surprises await us.'
While hardly a clear come-and-get-me-plea, Caicedo's interview is timed awkwardly for Chelsea after Fernandez's comments.
It also comes after Marc Cucurella felt emboldened to publicly criticise the club's transfer policy in the wake of their Champions League last 16 exit to Paris Saint-Germain. Rosenior has since held a meeting with Cucurella.
Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton for £115m in 2023 and is contracted until 2033.
The manager has taken a compassionate but firm stance towards his players' comments. He confirmed on Friday that Fernandez had been sanctioned.
'As a football club, with me as part of that process, we've made a decision,' he said.
'He won't be available for tomorrow's game (versus Port Vale) and he won't be available for Manchester City on Sunday. For Enzo, it's disappointing to speak in that way.
'What I will say about Enzo is in terms of him as a character, as a person, I've got no bad words to say about him,' his manager continued. 'But I think a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build. So we had to make a sanction and that was a decision we've made.
'As a character, as a person, as a player, I have the utmost respect for Enzo Fernandez. What he's achieved in his career, the player that he is, he's frustrated because he wanted Chelsea Football Club to be successful this year.
'He still wants that and we still count him. In terms of the decision, I've said this from day one, it's not all about just me. It's not all about the sporting directors or the ownership or the players. We are aligned in every decision that we make. So it was a joint decision. I'm saying that the door is not closed on Enzo. That's very important. It's a sanction.
'You have to protect, especially this football club, it's a winning football club with traditions of success. You have to protect that culture. I think in terms of that, the line was crossed in the international break.'
The midfielder will now be omitted from Chelsea's next two matchday squads: against Port Vale in their FA Cup clash on Saturday, and to face Manchester City in Premier League action next week.
The manager also held a meeting with Cucurella on Thursday, after the Spain international seemingly criticised Chelsea's transfer strategy, and the sacking of former manager Enzo Maresca, in a wide-ranging interview during the break.
'I had fantastic conversation with Marc yesterday,' Rosenior explained. 'Half an hour in my office.
'I want players, I've said to them from day one, if they've got any issue with how we do things, to come and speak to me and speak to sporting directors.
'My disappointment in Marc's interview is where it went to. I think he should have spoken to us first about the things that he's feeling. I want players to feel like they can speak openly and honestly for the benefit of the football club. Those conversations we've had with Reece James, that's why Reece has signed a new contract, because he believes in where we're going.
'As a football club, we know we need to improve, myself included. We actually know what we're going to do in the summer to achieve those objectives.
'Everybody knows Marc Cucurella, knows his character. He's a great character, he's passionate, he wants to do well. He did a long interview where he spoke with passion, he spoke his mind.
'Yesterday, when I was in the office with him for half an hour, I wanted to remind him "you can come and speak to me, you can be honest with me and you can be honest with the club about what you want." That takes time.
'I've been here for two-and-a-half months. We've played 20 games. So to build those relationships and those connections takes time. But Marc is fully committed, he wants to be here. He's made that very, very clear to me. And he actually believes in where we're moving forward.'
After defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Fernandez publicly questioned his future at Stamford Bridge, before days later, in a livestream with Argentine channel SpiderCARP, he appeared to issue a come-and-get-me plea to sometime suitors Real Madrid.
Asked which other city he would like to live in, Fernandez replied: 'Madrid... I like Madrid very much... it's similar to Buenos Aires.'
Cucurella griped that Chelsea's two-legged defeat to Paris Saint-Germain suggested that 'we are still a bit away from the top level'.
'I understand this is part of the club's policy, and that they want to take this direction - signing young players and looking to the future,' he said. 'But, for all of us who are still here and want to win big things, moments like this make you feel discouraged.
'We have a good core of players. The foundations are there. But to fight for major trophies, you need more. Signing young players only might complicate achieving those goals. Against PSG, we lacked players that had gone through situations like that.'

can't say it better! The fault lies squarely with the Chelsea owners for signing inexpirienced young players just to sell on maturity to make money. This is not what the English fans want. Trophies, trophies, trophies the fans want!

I wont be surprise if every players decided to leave at some point. As every players same as fans, we can all see it that this new owner called blueco or clearlake are the most clueless owner on the planet. Recruiting players for the sake of profit. They bombed the squard with kids. They brought inexperience coach to train inexperiece players and they expect miracles to happen. Boyle and Eghali or what is those 2 clowns name only bought that team for business puposes and the only solution to this mess is to let palmar go, caicedo, cucu, reece to follow and join a serious club who can help their careers and also the fans to stop buying ticket for those clowns to know they fucked' up.
the worst part? They aren't even making a profit they've broken records in losses

The players are expressing their disappointment displeasure frustration because they know that they have a bunch of good players but they lack experience leadership capability to withstand the pressure and challenges of opposing teams and it’s starting to feel as if they can’t get over the hurdle. If you work at a job and all management is doing is bringing in is young talented inexperienced workers and expecting to get the job done at the same level as you are accustomed to then of course you’re going to have a sense of uncertainty. I’ve been a Chelsea fan for over 4 centuries I’ve supported them through highs and lows but this new ownership has made many questionable decisions in regards to players and coaches. As a fan looking in from the outside I see confusion inconsistency mismanagement happening everywhere. It’s obvious that the sporting directors have no clue as to what is needed for the betterment of the club. 4 years and counting and still in the rebuilding process after spending over 1.5 billion dollars where is the progress where is the improvement in their performance 2 steps forward and 3 steps backwards. Not until the owners realize that they have blundered by getting the right mix of players the club will continue to linger in mid table. It’s obvious that a proven stable consistent goalkeeper is needed someone who instills confidence in the team. Sanchez is unreliable he makes you quince every time the ball goes to him I’m sorry for being so brutal but he’s a heartache of a keeper. Secondly defensively we have no experience stabilizer in central defense. If you’re building a fortress you have to have that doorkeeper who demands toughness order leadership and capable of teaching. In midfield which we all know there’s no leadership no creativity no one to take possession of the game and direct it forward. We have a nice car but not a reliable engine no one to get the players in front of him getting and wanting more every time. We need an assist king to start the game moving forward who sees holes in which to attack the opponent. Far too often we’re seeing the ball go forward and then side to side and then backwards inviting the opponent to attack us. Last but not least a proven CF who keeps defenders honest with his speed agility and capability of holding the ball until his teammates are able to get in the play. The owners and management are to be blamed for not getting the right players in and if they continue to be boneheaded Chelsea will continue to spiral out of control

I'm never going to blame any player for showing any signs of wanting to leave this Blueco Chelsea. These current owners either have no heads or are only business minded. These boys are growing and they need to have a clear path. Even for James, had it not been the fact that he grew up at chelsea and the club being loyal to him during his most dificult period in his carrier, he would have wanted to leave too. The only party we have to hold responsible for this mess is the owners and NOT the players.
I am not a Chelsea fan but i agree with you 💯. I have stated this issue many times and been slagged off by blind Chelsea fans. I respect your honesty mate.

I like my Tchouameni like that...His position is not available. None of these guys can hold up when we are defending. Attacking they are better maybe, but we already have more than enough attacking minded players. Tchouameni and that boy Pitarch is that balance we need.
Yeah true was saying if the club wants to strengthen they should go for him instead of those guys being talked of in the media

The journalist doing this must be from Madrid, it's always their style to stir up media uproar on their target team to gradually pave the way for favourable transfer to their club. No problem, we always know how the story ends.

Something is wrong with Chelsea, players don’t wish to leave unless they know something about the future plans.

It’s good for some of their fans who think trophies is everything about football, sometimes loyalty to the team is more than trophy that’s why years back a player might be in a mid team while clubs like Man U, Madrid, Barcelona will be looking for such player he will not go because of loyalty even if they go to relegation, but nowadays fans see everything about football revolve around trophies, now if they don’t win trophy or maybe the team is not performing well the players will want to leave, nowadays childish fans should learn from this

Why do those media manage to keep asking nonsense questions to blues players that’s disrespectful. ✌️
there was nothing disrespectful with their questions to Fernandez. They're doing their job. He(Fernandez) should have known better as a vice captain, not to talk carelessly. If you wanna leave he should keep it to himself until a club comes to offer the amount needed to sell him
