The former Gunners midfielder has been left unimpressed from what he has seen from the Switzerland international and can't understand why he's skipper
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has criticised Granit Xhaka, insisting that he cannot understand why he has been made captain and that he is not sure what the midfielder does best.
He told Paddy Power: "Can you imagine Patrick Vieira on the pitch on Monday night? He would have been shouting at his team-mates, asking them: 'What the f*ck are you doing?'
"I don't see that with Xhaka. I do with Guendouzi - he's one of the few who shows he wants to win every game. He's got a lion's heart.
"Guendouzi is relied upon a lot by [Unai] Emery, and that's because he's showing anger on the pitch. He hates to lose games, you can see that he's ready to fight for every single ball. He plays to his strengths and he does that well.
"That's more than you can say for some of the other midfielders. Can anyone tell me what is Xhaka's best quality? I don't know why he has been made captain. The leadership is absent.
"To be fair to Emery, it's a good thing that he's picking a lot of young players, including players grown at the club. Gabriel Martinelli has caught my eye, as has Joe Willock. And, of course, Kieran Tierney - I can't wait to actually see him playing, it's time - Arsenal need something else in defence.

He has three roles. 1. Rising up his hands whenever is beaten on the ball. 2. Fouling opponents within his box openly 3. Confusing his fellow players in the pitch with blind passess.

Football is a crazy business, uno... the only time we really tested Henderson, Sheffield's goalkeeper was the long range shot from Xhaka, if it had gone in, like the one against United last season, everyone would be singing his praises, but it didn't, so why not scapegoat him again... the other chance Pepe missed, Xhaka was instrumental in its buildup, it didn't result in a goal, let's blame Xhaka again... our ball carrying midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, dallies on the ball in a way I've never seen Arsenal central midfielders do, and trust me, I was an Arsenal fan when Denilson, Coquelin, Diaby, Zelalem, Kallstrom played in the midfield... if there's no urgency in passing, how can u break down teams quickly?... But Noo! let us all praise Guendouzi and blame Xhaka e-v-e-r-y week, it's very convenient... People complaining about Xhaka as captain as if William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen has never captained this club, as if Koscielny behaved well for a captain, as if Wenger didn't give RVP the band to keep him from leaving, like captaincy is some sacred thing over here!
