Alessandro Bastoni was penalised for pulling Florian Wirtz’s shirt in the box with minutes remaining, leading to Dominik Szoboszlai’s slamming home a 88th minute penalty as the Reds secured all three points at the San Siro.
The penalty was a disgrace
The pull on the shirt was pretty clear, but Wirtz clearly threw himself to the ground in dramatic fashion, sparking debate online over if the decision should have gone to VAR.
Speaking on punditry duty for Sky Sports Italia, Capello says the penalty was a disgrace and should never have been given.
“He lets himself fall, that’s a dive.
“The referee saw everything. I don’t understand why VAR intervened here.
“If that’s a foul, then we’ll get a penalty after every corner kick in the future, because everyone’s always fighting, everyone’s holding onto their jerseys. That was unfair.
“It’s a disgrace to award such a penalty.”
Chivu was furious
Inter manager Cristian Chivu also spoke on the incident which he says was completely wrong and that officials should be more educated on situations such as that.
“I rarely comment on refereeing decisions. I talk about education and what we ought to be teaching people, especially in the Champions League.
“The referee was in an excellent position to view the whole incident, and he decided it did not warrant a penalty.
“When VAR intervenes, it has to understand the dynamics of the game. We must accept the decisions and learn to combat against injustice, be more wary of these things, and try to focus on the good things that we can do.”

This was a clear penalty in terms of the Football rules. I salute the referees of the Liverpool vs Inter match. They applied the rules as they stand. Etikete used his hand to fashion a paas that led to a goal that was correctly ruled out. No one knows whether it was deliberate or by mistake but fact is his hand directed the ball towards his teammate. Allowing referees to use their discretion is criminal. That's why goalkeepers are being impeded in the EPL. Referees will now use their bias to award goals or fouls depending on how much they favour the offending team. They lie that the shady rules are designed to make the game more interesting yet the rogue referees and VAR are rewriting results. The one that disgusts me the most is when a clear foulis allowed to go unpunished because VAR deem it not to be a clear and obvious error by the referee. That phrase is crafted by crooks. If the VAR picks up am incident unseen or ignored by the referee, its only right to raise it to the referee because that is why the system is there, to arrive at correct decisions. Correct again. A shirt pull on WIRTZ was penalized. Someone said he was not pulled enough . Did you measure the amount of force? Obviously the shirt pull disadvantaged Wirtzand he did the right thing to fall for the penalty to be given. DON'T accuse the players of diving because if rules are applied oas they are without wriggle room for bias, players will not dive because they will know VAR will come to their rescue

Capello is a clown, there was a pull and when Wirtz felt it he instantly chose the penalty. It's a rule in football, any sort of pull especially the type we saw yesterday where it was clear Wirtz was going to get the ball is a foul. That's a penalty everyday.
