Gianluca Caprari’s last-gasp header secured Sampdoria a 1-0 win at SPAL to lift them off the bottom of Serie A.

Samp benched Fabio Quagiiarella for Federico Bonazzoli against SPAL, who also made a change up top, replacing fellow veteran Sergio Floccari with Gabriele Moncini.

The Paolo Mazza played host to the League’s two lowest-placed teams on Monday evening, and there was predictably a distinct lack of quality on show.

Manolo Gabbiadini thought he’d added to his two goals for the season when he netted early in the second half, but the striker was clearly offside.

Instead, it was left to substitute Caprari to meet Fabio Depaoli’s cross from the right and get off the mark for 2019-20.

The former Inter winger particularly enjoyed the moment, given he had missed three months of last season with a fractured tibia.

With that, Claudio Ranieri’s side are replaced at the foot of the table by the Biancazzurri, who have already lost eight times this term.
