Captain Liam Cooper delights in Leeds' brilliant win over Manchester City having been sent off

Liam Cooper was a relieved man after the Leeds captain watched his side get pegged back before netting a dramatic winner in second-half stoppage time at champions-elect Manchester City.

The visitors went ahead through Stuart Dallas' crisp strike on 42 minutes before Cooper was dismissed on the stroke of half time following a VAR review after lunging in and initially getting the ball before catching Gabriel Jesus just below his right knee.

That decision looked like it could scupper Marcelo Bielsa's men of the chance to claim to claim their first-ever victory at the Etihad as Ferran Torres equalised on 76 minutes.

However, a stunning late attack from Leeds saw them claim all three points as Ezgjan Alioski's brilliant through-ball with the outside of his left foot to release Dallas, who kept his composure to hold off John Stones and slip the ball under Ederson.

That win takes Leeds above Arsenal and into the top half for the time being, with Cooper taking to Twitter to express his delight.

'It is what it is! But make sure you f****n keep us down because boy are we coming back. Get that into you!!!! My brothers are animals! MOT,' he posted, with a blue heart emoji.

In response to a tweet rubbishing the idea that Leeds struggle with burnout near the ends of campaigns, Cooper replied: 'It's a myth!'

The Whites have hurdled the first big obstacle this month, but they face two more significant challenges.

Liverpool travel to Elland Road on April 19, before Manchester United travel across the Pennines the following Sunday.
