Cardiff boss Neil Warnock tells Joe Hart to forget England recall

Joe Hart should forget about an England recall and focus on falling in love with football again, according to Neil Warnock.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season with Burnley, and produced another eye-catching display in the 2-1 win against Warnock's Cardiff on Sunday.

His return to form follows a difficult end to his time at Manchester City, where he was marginalised by Pep Guardiola.

He was forced out on loan to Italy, where he spent a season with Torino, but a struggle for form saw him lose his spot in the England squad ahead of the World Cup in Russia.

Hart has not been picked for any of Gareth Southgate's sides since the end of March this year, and the Cardiff boss, in his typically barbed fashion, insists he should not be looking for a return any time soon.

'I think he should just let it go now, really, and concentrate on enjoying his game,' Warnock told reporters on Sunday.

'Gareth doesn't play like Burnley do, it's a different ball game and I think Jordan Pickford is better at playing it out from the back and being a sweeper.

'I didn't see that very often today. I had to laugh when I heard Sean [Dyche] saying about our long-ball game – I don't think they kept it more than two seconds at the back.

'I thought it epitomised the whole game that Joe Hart got man of the match. Even I was clapping the save from [Josh] Murphy. It was a fabulous save.'

It was not just the Cardiff boss who was on the case of Hart on Sunday. The Burnley shot-stopper was serenaded with the chant ' England's number four' by the home fans in the Welsh capital.

He at least saw the funny side, responding with a thumbs up and a grin.
