Carragher explains how Scott 'put him in his place' after infamous on-air dig

Jamie Carragher admits he acted like "a little child" when he cracked a joke about Kate Scott's loyalty during a show last season.

The Liverpool icon and Scott are part of CBS Sports' Champions League coverage alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards. The quartet have provided plenty of laughs along the way, but things haven't always gone to plan.

An ill-judged joke by Carragher went viral earlier this year when she refused to don an Arsenal shirt during a segment back in March. She insisted that she was loyal to her club, Manchester United, before Carragher quipped back: "You're not loyal to Malik!," referencing her then-fiance Malik Scott.

His comments were quickly flagged online and there was a muted reaction in the studio. Carragher has since apologised and revealed that Scott 'put him in his place'.

Speaking to The Ringer, he said: “We never ignore the elephants in the room. I was a little child. I was just getting a little smack and getting put back in place, and rightly so.”

Scott also had her say about Carragher's joke in the same interview, adding: “I think the reason that we function well is because we needle each other. That's like a sports team, right? I feel like those inappropriate conversations should be had in the locker room and kept in the locker room. You deal with them internally, and then you move on.”

Scott, who married Malik last month, has previously admitted that she was hurt by Carragher's joke, which "came from nowhere."

She told IFL TV: “It was just a quick line, it was meant to be funny, sometimes they hit, sometimes they don't. That one went a little bit sideways. I felt a little bit hurt but it is what it is. You move on. We talked about it, we're all good, nothing really to talk about.”

She also gave an insight into Malik's response, adding: “Malik does not want to fight Jamie. Malik and Jamie are cool. I understand why Malik said what he said but I think also if you read the full extent of what he said he was super respectful.

“He just said, you know, like anybody would say, if anything was said in the future that crossed the line, I'd want to have a conversation man to man. I think that's a normal thing.

“I think the headlines that [said] ‘I'll turn up in physical fashion’ - that was a little overstated. But Malik is so secure as a person. Nothing rattles him.”
