Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool to sign a new left-back in January to help club stalwart Andy Robertson, who is "struggling".
It remains to be seen if the Reds will be active when the January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks time with Arne Slot's team flying high at the summit of both the Premier League and the Champions League, though some business could take place.
One area of Liverpool's squad that has been scrutinised is left-back, with Robertson, 30, out of form. The Scotland captain was sent off after just 17 minutes in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Fulham and has struggled to hit his usual high standards this season.
The situation is now at a stage where Carragher believes Slot and co must bring in another player in that position when the transfer window reopens.
"Robertson is having a tough time and it's a very unforgiving position," Carragher told Sky Sports on Monday night.
"[Against Fulham] He doesn’t look like he's running back fully, he's had a whack then gingerly goes to control the ball before getting a red card. He needs help. Liverpool haven't got any back-up and it's something they need to address in January."
Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez has had a fine season and is said to have attracted admiring glances from elsewhere in the Premier League, including from top clubs.
Carragher believes he would be ideal to come in and challenge Robertson for a place in the team and pointed out that Liverpool's new sporting director, Richard Hughes, previously worked on the deal that took Kerkez to Bournemouth.
He continued: "Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The technical director who brought him to Bournemouth [Richard Hughes] is now the sporting director at Liverpool.
"Kerkez looks like a full back and he's aggressive. He's been superb since he came into the Premier League and is one to watch in the future whether he stays or moves on."
Kerkez recently hinted at his desire to play for an elite club in the future, telling The Guardian: "I fully believe in my ability to compete at the top. Every match, we’ve pushed hard, yet we know we’re only at the halfway point of the season. In the Premier League, fortunes can shift dramatically within just two games."

Robinson from Fulham I'd the best replacement

kerkez or Robinson would be a great addition, with tsimikas on rotation. Robertson is off, pains me to say.

one of the very rare occasions where I agree with Carragher

The real problem is the absence of Konate and a very good LCB should be priority.

Fulham’s LB would be the ideal replacement. An out and out striker should also be on the radar

i agree with Carragher on this left back matter, no doubt Roberson has been one of our best left back few years buh not the same since last season i think old ages is really getting hold on him, in other for us to be competitive we need a younger and better left back.

Carra was never a favorite of mine in his playing days, and even now i’m still shocked with some of his statements. Robbo is clearly having a bad run of form which can change with time. We should prioritize a more dynamic midfield player for depth and versatile defender, not just a left back.
Robbo is old bro no change he’s done
