Ahead of the Premier League's fourth-round Manchester derby, Manchester United manager Carrick was interviewed by Sky Sports.
Michael, today's derby at Old Trafford is obviously a repeat of your first game in charge of Manchester United. Obviously, you're in a better position now than you were then, but do you feel that if you can get the desired result today, this game could provide a similar boost to your season in terms of momentum, energy, and optimism?
It's a big shift for us. I think we came into the season with a lot to be encouraged about. Of course, we would have liked to have more points at this stage. We know how important today's game is and what it can bring.
But we need to find a balance. We know it's a long season and we have to be consistent over a period of time. So in some ways, everything today is important, and of course it has to be. But in the bigger picture, today doesn't mean everything. There's still a lot to be decided after the game.
On Luke Shaw:
Luke Shaw is not quite ready yet, but he's very close to returning.
On Dogu:
Dogu has played this position before, and I trust him. He performed very well in the midweek game. Today is a different game, but he has my trust.
On Šeško:
He's in great form right now. He's obviously been scoring goals. Tactically, we've set up a bit differently today, and having him available when we need him is a huge threat for us. So, we're very happy to have that option.
