Carrick: We played well, it's disappointing not to take three points

In Sunday night's Premier League match, Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds United away from home. Afterwards, Carrick spoke to the club's official media about his thoughts on the game.

The team managed to take only one point at Elland Road. How would you rate the team's performance today?

Yes, we were in a very strong position at one point, leading 1-0. We knew before the game that it would be an intense, tight match, and the lads were fully committed throughout. For significant periods, we played some beautiful football and scored a fantastic goal.

In the first half, Mbeuno had another chance to score, and overall we didn't give the opponents many opportunities. Their main threats came from set-pieces, long balls, and corners. Apart from that, I think we played well. It's certainly disappointing not to take all three points, as that was our goal for the trip.

But looking at the overall performance, there were many positives for the team. At a venue like this, if you're slightly off your game, it's easy for the opponents to exploit weaknesses, and that's what happened today. The players faced this tough challenge head-on.

As you know, this has always been a difficult away ground to conquer. For the team to still take a point here after a tough week truly shows the resilience of this squad.

This morning I spoke with the players about this match, about the history of this stadium, and what this game means to the fans and the local community. This match carried more significance than a regular game. I believe the players had to fully understand the weight behind it, and they truly coped with the pressure today, stepping onto the field with that understanding and playing the full match. I'm very satisfied with many aspects of their performance.

What aspects were you satisfied with? Was there any particular moment that showed exactly what you want from this team?

I saw excellent team spirit, strong aggression, and players protecting each other. We played high-quality football at times, though of course we would have liked more of those moments.

But objectively, with this kind of game tempo, it's not easy to control the situation from start to finish; the game was always tight. However, we created several dangerous chances, which is why we're disappointed not to have won the match.

One last question: the team will soon face an away Champions League match against Como. What preparations does the team need to make between now and then to ensure they are physically fit and ready?

Next up is recovery, rest, and preparation. A three-day interval is perfectly fine; this is the rhythm we expect. We need a continuous run of games. After this tough match today, there's another difficult one on Wednesday, and we will be ready.
