Michael Carrick called the inconsistencies of the referees' decisions in Manchester United's draw with Bournemouth "crazy" as the Red Devils were held to a 2-2 stalemate on Friday.
The Red Devils were twice pegged back after going in front at the Vitality Stadium, while Harry Maguire was also sent off late on.
The England international received a straight red for a denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity after he pushed Evanilson to the ground in the box, which allowed Junior Kroupi to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot in the 81st minute.
This was the first Premier League game to see at least one penalty scored, an own goal scored and a red card brandished since Fulham vs Aston Villa in October 2022.
However, United were not awarded a penalty shortly before Ryan Christie's 67th-minute strike when Amad Diallo was felled in similar fashion by Adrien Truffert, due to insufficient contact.
Carrick was bemused by the decisions, believing the referee had to come to the same outcome on both occasions.
"Disappointed – we created enough chances and had enough opportunities in the game," Carrick told BBC Match of the Day.
"A big opportunity to go 2-0 up, and we get one penalty and not the other. It's exactly the same thing really – a two-handed grab.
"He's [referee] got one wrong, so I don't know which one, but he doesn't give us the second one.
"I think they're both penalties, and it's a massive moment in the game, and it ended up chaos after that. Massive moment and I don't understand how you can give one and not the other – it's crazy.
"It's as obvious as you can get – you've already given one so to not give the other one. It's clear, if that's what he believes is a penalty to start with, then the second one has to be.
"I don't understand how you can't give that."
With the March international break being followed by an FA Cup weekend, United are not in action again until April 13, when they host Leeds United.
Carrick insisted his side will be prepared to face their rivals at Old Trafford despite the long break.
"It is what it is. It's not a problem," added Carrick.
"Boys are going away, and it feels a lot because of the international break but we'll be ready for Leeds when it comes."
