Carrick facing the sack if United loses to Bournemouth

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United's hierarchy is divided on who should replace Carrick if the club decides to sack him. The manager will likely be dismissed if United fails to beat AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

While the club acknowledges that not all problems are Carrick's responsibility, the team's performance has been concerning, and his future has become a central topic of discussion internally.

However, if Manchester United does change managers, it remains unclear who they should approach. Football director Jason Wilcox wants a candidate with a proven Premier League track record, and his recruitment strategy favors signing players with league experience.

Wilcox's top target is Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler, but the 33-year-old is reportedly unconvinced about moving to Old Trafford, and Brighton & Hove Albion would demand substantial compensation for releasing their promising young manager—a fee Manchester United cannot afford.

Among available managers, Wilcox highly rates Eddie Howe. Howe has been out of work since leaving Newcastle United this summer, and his track record at St James' Park and previously at AFC Bournemouth is well-regarded.

Though Wilcox has the trust of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Julian Nagelsmann remains a realistic candidate. Director of Player Negotiations Christopher Vivell has been advocating for Nagelsmann.

Vivell had hoped Manchester United would pursue Nagelsmann last summer, but the club felt securing a candidate during the World Cup was logistically impractical. Nagelsmann has since left the German national team and is currently available.

He previously managed Bayern Munich and possesses experience at top European clubs, with the kind of reputation and bearing that would appeal to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe watched Manchester United suffer a humiliating defeat in a match on the shores of Lake Como, which was embarrassing; what made it worse was that one of the opposing team's standout players had previously played within the Ineos system.
