Carrick is in high demand after proving his quality with a derby victory

Carrick's impressive coaching ability has led to a flurry of offers following his side's derby win.

Manchester United recently terminated their collaboration with Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, a decision driven by both on-field performance and internal management conflicts.

During Amorim’s 14-month tenure, the Red Devils secured only 15 Premier League victories. Meanwhile, disagreements between him and football director Jason Wilcox over tactical philosophy and transfer strategy compelled the club’s ownership group, INEOS, to end the partnership prematurely.

The board decided against immediately appointing a permanent head coach and instead opted to install an interim manager first. Candidates included Darren Fletcher, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, and Michael Carrick.

Following Manchester United’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton, Fletcher’s candidacy came to an end, and after extensive consideration, English midfield legend Carrick was ultimately awarded the managerial opportunity.

The 44-year-old Carrick has made a strong start since taking charge, leading the team to a commanding victory over local rivals Manchester City in the most recent Manchester derby.

Interestingly, according to Talksport, Tottenham Hotspur had already approached the former Middlesbrough manager before Manchester United extended their invitation.

With current Spurs boss Thomas Frank failing to meet expectations, the club had considered a managerial change and discussed the possibility of a return with their former player.

“Had Carrick not taken the United job, he could well have been among the candidates for Tottenham’s interim manager role.” A source revealed, “Although Frank remains in charge for Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, his position is still very much under threat.”

“If Tottenham’s hierarchy ultimately decides Frank cannot continue—which currently seems highly likely—they are expected to appoint an interim manager for the remainder of the season while awaiting target candidates like Mauricio Pochettino. It is understood that Carrick, who made 75 appearances for Spurs, was indeed sounded out about a potential return to North London before accepting the Manchester United role.”

In addition to Tottenham, several Championship and other Premier League clubs also expressed interest in Carrick, but the offer from Manchester United was clearly too compelling to turn down.

Now he will lead this 20-time English league champion side into their next challenge—traveling to North London to face Arsenal, Tottenham’s archrivals.
