Andy Carroll has suffered a groin strain and will miss this weekend's visit of Wolves, while Newcastle are sweating on the severity of a knee injury to star defender Fabian Schar.
Both players picked up the problems during last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, a result that leaves the Magpies in the bottom three.

Although the groin injury is not thought to be serious, it is nonetheless a setback in his bid for full fitness.
Schar, meanwhile. has damaged knee ligaments and is also out of Sunday's game.
Steve Bruce will be concerned that the Switzerland international could be missing for a lengthy period, especially as he has been Newcastle's best player this season.
