Celtic are currently in talks to sign unwanted Leicester defender Filip Benkovic, according to reports.
The 23-year-old is believed to not feature in the Premier League club's plans for the season - and Leicester are now open to entertaining offers for him.
And now, as claimed by Sky Sports, Celtic are in the race to snap up the Croatia international and favour a potential loan deal with an option to buy.
The long-term knee injury recently suffered by stalwart Christopher Jullien has forced Celtic into the market to source a replacement.
Benkovic has emerged as a target and will be available to move to Parkhead depending on whether an agreement can be thrashed out.
The central defender has already memorably spent a season with Celtic between 2018 and 2019.
A key figure under Brendan Rodgers, Benkovic made 27 appearances and scored twice across all competitions.
His time in England since has so far been dogged by frustration and a lack of game time, however.
Benkovic spent the first half of the current campaign on loan at Cardiff, although that deal was terminated earlier this week.
The defender, who has received one international cap, initially joined the club on a season-long loan. He made just one substitute appearance, though.
With a previous short-term spell with Bristol City also producing mixed results last season, Benkovic's future at Leicester remains increasingly uncertain.
The new deal awarded to Jonny Evans, which will now run until 2023, delivered a further blow to his team-mate's hopes of finally making his top-flight bow.
