Jurgen Klopp ended his and Liverpool's wait for silverware as Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi bookended a 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Match Report
Mohamed Salah put last season's final heartbreak behind him by setting up a 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid and a sixth Champions League triumph for Liverpool.
Egypt star Salah was infamously injured in a challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos before the Reds subsided to a 3-1 defeat in Kiev 12 months ago but grabbed the opener in a largely forgettable contest at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Premier League Golden Boot winner dispatched a second-minute penalty after Moussa Sissoko was penalised for handball.
Liverpool and their Premier League counterparts played in fits and starts thereafter, with Spurs enjoying their most consistent spell of pressure before substitute Divock Origi added to his semi-final brace against Barcelona by drilling clinically into the bottom-right corner three minutes from time.

2' Penalty Goal! Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool (Salah)
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! SALAH PUTS LIVERPOOL AHEAD!!! 1-0!!! The referee points to the spot as Mane strikes the ball off Sissoko and it hits his hand on the way down. Salah steps up from 12 yards and he hammers the ball down the middle of the net. Lloris dives early to his left and the ball is already past the Frenchman before he can react. Liverpool make the perfect start to the Champions League final.
9' Beautiful dribble from Son Heung-Min
OVER! Son tries to weave his way through the Liverpool defence, but he gets crowded out before he can shoot. The loose ball falls to Sissoko 25 yards from goal and he lines up a drive, only to smash his attempt over the bar.
17' Alexander-Arnold with a skimmer from distance
CLOSE! Alexander-Arnold collects in space on the right flank and he hammers a low drive towards the bottom corner. It has the pace to trouble Lloris, but the ball travels just wide of the target.
18' Wanda Metropolitano 'welcomes' a female pitch invader
38' Robertson drives forward and forces Lloris into a good save
SAVE! Matip threads a ball out from the back to Robertson into space. The Scot has acres of room to run into down the left flank. Tottenham allow him to travel towards the edge of the box and he goes for a goal, only to be denied by a good save from Lloris, tipping the ball over the bar.
54' CLOSE! Lloris gathers Robertson's cross with Mane poised
Salah breaks forward down the right flank, but sees his strike blocked by Vertonghen. Liverpool recycle possession before Robertson curls low ball towards the middle, but Lloris races off his line to gather ahead of Mane.
58' Vertonghen's header over the bar
OVER! Trippier lifts a corner deep to the back post for Vertonghen to head at goal. He makes contact with his header, only to place it over the bar.
69' SO CLOSE! Milner nearly scores
CHANCE! Milner comes within inches of doubling Liverpool's lead. Mane surges at the Tottenham defence before offloading towards Salah. The forward in turn plays it to Milner on the edge of the box, who goes for a strike with his left foot, which creeps inches wide of the post with Lloris stranded.
81' Alisson denies Son & Lucas with double save
SAVES! Alisson keeps Liverpool ahead, producing two fine stops to deny Tottenham. Son weaves his way into space 25 yards from goal before he strikes a right-footed effort at goal. Alisson gets across to make the stop, pushing the ball away. Rose keeps the attack alive working an offload towards Lucas, but a toe-poke from the forward is saved by the Liverpool keeper.
87' GOAL! Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool (Origi)
ORIGI MAKES IT TWO!!!! 2-0 LIVERPOOL!!! The Reds are surely on their way to their sixth European crown. Tottenham fail to clear their lines from the corner and Matip is able to work the ball into the path of Origi. The Belgian takes a strike on his left foot from the left inside channel, expertly placing his effort past Lloris into the bottom corner.

Post match analysis of Liverpool vs Tottenham Champions League final Tottenham: Tottenham lined-up as 4–2–3–1 on paper. With the ball Tottenham played as 2–3–5 with Danny Rose and Trippier high up the pitch. Sissoko and Harry Winks managing the midfield. Tottenham were successful in building up from the back with full backs pushing up into midfield who received a long ball from Lloris. This eliminated Liverpool’s front three. Kane, Son and Dele Alli keeping Liverpool’s defence narrow allowing its full backs to attack high up the pitch, but getting into the final third of the pitch was a problem because of Liverpool’s strong defence . Without the ball Tottenham played as 4–2–3–1. Tottenham didn’t allow Liverpool to build from back due to their formation. Son, Eriksen and Dele Alli covering Liverpool’s fullbacks along with Fabinho in the mid thus leaving an only option of long balls. Tottenham’s tactic worked as Liverpool didn’t create much chances via build-up. But somehow Liverpool managed to score 2 goals. So, lets see how Liverpool lined-up against Tottenham. Liverpool: Liverpool lined-up as 4–3–3 on paper. With the ball Liverpool played as 3–2–5 with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Robertson high up the pitch and fabinho dropping in the defence. Wijnaldum and Henderson managing the mid. Tottenham didn’t allow Liverpool to build from back and hence they opted for long balls. They didn’t had to work much with the ball after Salah’s penalty in 2nd minute of the game. This two are the reason Liverpool had just 35% of possession. Without the ball Liverpool played as 4–3–3 and most of the times Mane falling back to create 4–4–2 formation. Apparently, Liverpool have the best defence in Europe. Most of the time they had to work without the ball and they did it perfectly. I also predicted in my previous answer that if Liverpool can stop one or two threats from Tottenham, Allison might keep a clean sheet and that is what happened. Its after 9 years that someone has managed to keep a clean sheet in Champions League final. Last clean sheet was by Julio Cesar against Bayern in 2010 final. First goal: Unfortunately, hand ball by Sissoko and Salah scores. I guess Mane saw Sissoko’s hand position and intentionally lobbed the ball. Pochettino made some changes in his attack by bringing in Lucas Moura, and Llorente hoping to get a equalizer. During the end of the game Tottenham’s attack had many shots on target but they couldn’t break The Wall, Allison. He had 8 saves out of 8 shots on target while Lloris had one save out of 3 shots on target. He is one the main reason for Liverpool’s success this season. Second goal: This goal came after a corner leaving some space for Origi to take shot on target. He was brilliant in finishing as he had a very tight angel to score. At the end it was just the best defence which won the match and on the other hand Tottenham just couldn’t finish when they got chances in latter half of the match. KLOPP and LIVERPOOL deserved a trophy with the performance they put up this season.
