Championship: Coventry pull eight points clear at summit

Coventry City moved eight points clear at the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over Bristol City, with both sides reduced to 10 men.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto opened the scoring for Frank Lampard's side in the 37th minute, but Joel Latibeaudiere received a straight red card just six minutes later after hauling back Emil Riis.

Coventry still finished the first half on top, though, with Haji Wright netting his sixth goal in five games in the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time.

And Bristol were unable to mount a comeback, especially when the numbers were evened out again after Adam Randell received his second booking just 11 minutes into the second half.

Elsewhere, Millwall put more pressure back on Middlesbrough after cruising to a 3-1 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Hull City at the MKM Stadium.

Joe Gelhardt had cancelled out Jake Cooper's early opener for the Lions, but goals from Mihailo Ivanovic and Josh Coburn in the space of eight second-half minutes secured the win for Millwall.

That proved an even more important win as Ipswich Town missed the chance to move above Millwall as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Leicester City.

Patson Daka had given Leicester, who are 22nd in the table and one point from safety, a 39th-minute lead, but substitute Sindre Egeli salvaged a point for Ipswich.

And West Brom also drew to move out of the relegation zone, with George Campbell stealing the headlines in their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Campbell had given the Blades the lead eight minutes into the second half with an own goal, but he made up for that error 30 minutes later by netting the equaliser.

Data Debrief: Wright on track

Wright has now scored in his last three Championship games (three goals) and his 16th goal of the season helped secure them another vital three points.

Coventry have now won their last five league games, their best winning streak since November 2025.

And they completed their first league double over Bristol City since 2021-22.
