Championship players may see their wages capped at £6,000 a week until the season resumes.

As reported by The Telegraph, Championship clubs held a conference call on Friday during which the issue of player wages was discussed.

Although many of the leading Championship players earn more than £35,000 a week, they may have to take significant short-term pay cuts.

The report indicates that League One and League Two sides are also considering introducing wage deductions for players.

There will be no Championship games played until at least April 30 owing to the coronavirus outbreak, with the English Football League this week announcing that they will make a £50million rescue fund available to clubs in the Championship as well as League One and League Two.

However, that money is only set to last for around six weeks, meaning Championship clubs would have to take extra financial measures.

There remain concerns over whether the Championship season will start again until June, which is of great concern to clubs in a financial sense.
