Chelsea 0-0 Man City (pen 3-4): Ederson the hero, Kepa the villain in Cup Final

There were remarkable scenes at Wembley as Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted but Raheem Sterling hit the winning penalty for City.

Bernardo Silva's dazzling run on the right flank finishes with a dinked cross to Aguero at the back post. Aguero controls on his chest, creating space from Azpilicueta and swings his right boot at the ball as it bounces. His effort goes over the bar.

Willian releases Hazard down the left. The Belgian bumps Laporte off the ball and causes chaos in the City area as he goes past a couple. His shot is eventually blocked.

Aguero has it in the net from close-range, but the goal is ruled out for offside. The referee refers to the VAR.

The VAR sticks with the on-field decision, keeping the scores level.

Hazard is released down the left flank by Willian. He's left in a lot of space and dances past Kompany, making it to the byline.

Kante arrives in the area and Hazard finds him. Kante strikes it first-time and it goes just over the bar. That's the best chance of the match so far.

76' Pedro almost creates something

Chelsea play through City's midfield with some quick passing down the left. Hazard holds off a challenge from David Silva and beats Otamendi on the edge of the area before sliding it to Pedro. 

The Spaniard decides against a shot and squares it. City get it behind for a corner.

Sterling breaks a challenge along the byline, cutting back to Aguero. Azpilicueta blocks his shot inside the six-yard box and Kepa punches it away from the goal towards several City players. Kante beats all of them to the ball and clears it.

120' Kepa refuses to come off and be replaced by Caballero

The young Spaniard appeared to suffer a muscular problem on two occasions in extra-time, dropping to the floor each time, and that caused Sarri to decide that he should bring on Caballero.

Kepa then ignored his coach by refusing to come off, which led to Sarri - and the Chelsea coaching staff - looking infuriated as their player had showed a complete lack of respect.

Sarri even went to walk down the tunnel and leave the game prematurely, but he made the choice to stay.

Raheem Sterling hit the winning penalty as Manchester City retained their EFL Cup crown with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea following a goalless draw that saw Kepa Arrizabalaga incredibly defy under-pressure Maurizio Sarri.

City hammered Chelsea 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago but Maurizio Sarri's switch of system to use Eden Hazard as a false nine – with Gonzalo Higuain missing out at Wembley on Sunday – boosted his side's defensive solidity.

Pep Guardiola claimed pre-match it was too early to talk about City's chances of winning a historic quadruple despite being in the FA Cup quarter-finals, leading their last-16 Champions League tie with Schalke and sitting neck-and-neck with Liverpool in the Premier League.

Remarkably, an injured Kepa would not make way for Willy Caballero in extra time and, although he saved one spot-kick, Sterling converted the decisive effort for City to deny Sarri, reportedly close to the sack, his first trophy as a manager.
