Kai Havertz will reportedly only join Chelsea as long as they qualify for next season's Champions League.
It was previously reported that the starlet has had enough at Bayer Leverkusen and has told the club of his desire to seek pastures new.
Chelsea are leading the race to sign the 21-year-old this summer and are preparing to launch a bid for the forward.
But, according to SportBild's head of football, Christian Falk, Havertz wants to leave the BayArena because of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
He adds that Chelsea must qualify for the Champions League to convince him of a move to Stamford Bridge.
This comes after Chelsea's pursuit of a top-four finish was damaged on Saturday after they fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat against high-flying Sheffield United.
Should Leicester City beat Bournemouth on Sunday and Manchester United take all three points against Southampton on Monday, Chelsea would drop out of the top-four.
The club will also have an eye on whether Manchester City will escape their two-year European ban, as the Court of Arbitration for Sport is set to deliver their verdict on Monday.
Havertz is valued at £75 million but Chelsea would have to match his £90m buyout clause if they wish to prize him away from the Bundesliga club.
Chelsea are willing to match that fee but would prefer to pay it in installments.
They could face stiff competition however from Real Madrid for his signature. However any pursuit from the Spanish giants would depend on them selling players first in order to fund a move.
The German forward has enjoyed a brilliant season with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 17 goals in 43 games across all competitions.
Despite his fantastic performances, the club just missed out on a Champions League place finishing fifth in the Bundesliga, while they also were runners up in the German Cup following a loss to Bayern Munich.

We seriously don't need him please spend a good amount on our defence please. Scoring will surely not be a problem next season but our defence will be. We need clean sheets a lot. Even if we fail to score our defence will be there to draw the match atleast. We've lost 11 matches this season and we always conceded at the very last and gave away a point. That seriously can't be happening. Please sell kepa even for 20-25 mill is fine and get someone who can actually save the ball. And sell alonso or Emerson for a leftback. Even get rid off bakayoko and Drinkwater for more funds for a great centre back. Then we'll talk about a title challenge next season.

Good cos we can turn our attention to what really matters if we dont sign him. We need defenders till then we arent ready for Europe so why are we fooling ourselves. I said the same thing last season that once the ban is done we need a new left back 100% and that still stands true but now we also need a new keeper and left centre back. Let's sort out what needs sorting before looking at luxury signings like Havertz cos ideally that is what he is, a luxury signing. Worse comes to worse we can sign Benrahma who is actually better at unlocking tight defences than Havertz. Yesterday showed that there are good players in the Chanpionship so it's about time we stop disrespecting the level and look to there for inspiration coa Benrhama is easily a EPL level player playing in championship. Not signing Kai isnt the end of the world and can be beneficial in the long run for the club to gain stability. No point spending next season outscoring other teams cos we blew our budget on attackers...
