According to the latest news from journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have not given up on signing Xhaka, as he is keen to work with Alonso. However, Sunderland insiders firmly believe Xhaka has made up his mind to stay.
Ben Jacobs pointed out: "After a new round of communication with Xhaka, Sunderland concluded that the player will stay, and the club once again made it clear to Chelsea that Xhaka is not for sale. Sunderland has maintained this stance since rejecting the £8 million offer.
Chelsea remain very interested in Xhaka and continue to push forward with the transfer, knowing that Xhaka is very much looking forward to working with Xabi Alonso again.
Internal Sunderland sources revealed that Xhaka was initially willing to consider a move to Stamford Bridge, but after in-depth discussions, the club believes he has now made up his mind to stay and will lead the team in European competitions next season.
