Andreas Christensen has vowed to stay at Chelsea amid speculation over his future, claiming he is hoping to secure a new deal at the club.
The Danish defender has come back into the Blues' plans this term under Frank Lampard having been frozen out of the first-team picture by previous manager Maurizio Sarri.
Along with Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori he has been rotated in the defence this term featuring 23 times in all competitions.
The 24-year-old struggled in Chelsea's surprise 3-2 defeat at West Ham United on Wednesday night.
Former Blues defender Ashley Cole was highly critical of Christensen for Michail Antonio's goal which put West Ham 2-1 up, blasting the Dane for ball watching.
‘He’s got to recover and block that space,’ Cole told Sky Sports. ‘He recovers too late and he doesn’t see where Antonio is. Now he’s ball-watching. It’s a great ball and now it’s a tap-in.
‘Whenever you recover to your goal you’ve got to have an open body shape, to be able to see the ball and to see the striker maybe out the corner of my eye but he did nothing. He just looked at the ball.
‘He left so much space between the goalkeeper and the centre-half. It’s a great ball and for Antonio it’s a tap-in. There’s nothing Azpilicueta can do because he’s got a man on him as well, he can’t track that run.
‘Christensen has to start realising the danger and the spaces before he just switches off for a second.’
The defender though vowed to earn a new contract at Stamford Bridge where he has a deal until 2022.
'I've never looked anywhere else, he told Sky Sports after the loss at the London Stadium.
'I've never doubted my situation. I've always had my eyes at Chelsea. I've had my contract and I've always expected to finish that and I've always dreamed of even more than that. Nothing has changed.
'Obviously it was a different situation last season but I still love being here, that's the short answer.'
The London derby defeat put a dent in Chelsea's hopes of reaching the Champions League next season as they threw away the opportunity to go above third placed Leicester City while also leaving them just two points clear of top four rivals Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, Lampard has already strengthened his team's attack next term with the signings of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Christensen hopes their arrivals can help sustain a challenge for Liverpool's Premier League crown.
'We are in a process but I think we are way ahead of time,' he added.
'We know what we are capable of. We feel very comfortable and confident at the moment. [Winning titles] is where we all want to be, so why not?
'We're all hungry. We have a good balance between experienced people and young, exciting talent. So I think that's the goal for all of us.'

There are so many players we could have bought. We once had the attraction and ability to sign guys like Godin in their prime. Imagine Diego Godin at the back for us. This club has been so in serious with its business for the last few years signing 2nd options and the only time its worked out is when we signed Kante who was the 2nd option to Nianggolan but ended up being much better. The rest all pretty much done worse than our intended targets. Truth is Rudiger was brought in as a rotation CB but we have fallen to the point that players that belong on the bench are starting. Half our team shouldnt be starters at a big club. Some wouldnt even start at smaller teams...
The way Man Utd is playing today, it's a huge wake up call for Chelsea. We need to match their ambition along with Man City's and Liverpool's otherwise we could go so much further backwards. Werner and Ziyech is only just the start but if this defence is not fixed, Chelsea fans should forget about a PL title anytime soon.

How I wish we had signed Maguire in the summer of 2017 rather than sign this overrated Rüdiger. Massive blunder by the board. I know Maguire was a risk at the time but he was still a huge influence at Hull City back then. Leicester capitalised on the opportunity to sign him for a paltry 12 million. What a steal of a signing that was! And yeah I really wanted him at the time. Just reminds me again how much we messed up the transfer windows in that second Conte season.

well maybe you're right..but even so, those guys can't even defend set pieces, they give the opponents too much space whenever the ball is played into the box, makes me wonder if they even train to clear out crosses.
Yes, good point. Rüdiger is someone who has played in Serie A. Surely he has to perform better than that. It's not good enough.

They would do better in a defensive setup like Wolves. That's why Rüdiger did well under Antonio Conte. And while he looked decent under Sarri, that's mainly because we played risk averse football under the Italian's management. Now he gets exposed far too easily in 1 v 1s or in counter attacks. For the same reason, these two did well against Man City and we won the game. They'll do better in a defensive setup but that's not how Lampard wants us to play usually.

After last night? no chance mate. I've never been a fan of Christensen and hes fell off since the UCL match against Barca nearly 3 seasons ago. Messi already ended dudes career years ago people were just clutching at straws. Zouma always been a better defender and got nothing but hate but after the game last night I hope people have woke up to the reality that the defence needs an overhaul and that Zouma IS OUR BEST CENTRE BACK. Chelsea needs a dominating English centre back. And I know the majority on this app hate English people due to their systematic racism way of thinking. But our best eras defensively have come with a strong English centre back with leadership skills. Now people may not like my choice but I say sell Christensen and invest the money made which is probably around 20 million into Lewis Dunk of Brighton. Hes a leader, good with his feet, really tall and commanding and has great reading of the game despite the rest of the squad being a let down. I know its q controversial pick given they just lost to United recently but cant be any worse than what we already have and would cost 40 million and be an immediate upgrade in the back line. It's better to buy smart than big. Dunk is probably the best option for a left centre back that we can hope for. Him paired with Zouma would be a colossal pairing and would do really well. The last time Zouma played next to a top English CB was Terry and Zouma looked world class till he picked up that injury. But the days of Christensen and Rudiger are numbered, unless it's on the bench I dont want to see them. Many players need to be cleared out it's not even funny. Earn your contracts instead if thinking you'll get a free ride...

Christensen is awful but he's still better than Rüdiger for now. Chelsea should sell both of them once this season is done.

Any defender who cannot take risk is not worthy of playing in a big club. Christensen is too soft to be a defender. He hardly put his head during Conner and I've never seen him as a threat to opponent during set play. Chelsea needs a radical defender like Terry, Ramos, VVD or Calvanho. It's time to part with average players and get good ones.

Christensen you had a good first season, but now your career with Chelsea doesn't seem bright, if Lampard wants peace with fans he better not start you ever again.

Totally agree with your astute analysis bro. Imagine a team that have Rudiger and Christensen as the main CB. This is a colossal error. Immediate clear out need to be done at the back line ASAP!

Yo we have the same choice what the heck haha. Lewis Dunk is perfect he is an upgrade Harry Maguire for less money...
Yeah.. and if Brighton loses points and get relegated, we can get him for even less. Another player is Tyron mings who will get relegated with Villa so he could be an option too but he's too slow for me.

Why not bring back Baba Raman, Moses , Ampadu, Miazga and buy back Ake. Then sell off Aspilicueta, and Christensen
Apart from Ampadu non of those are good enough. Especially not for a side that wants to challenge for titles.
