Frank Lampard has finally found a new role - but is not returning to the dugout just yet.

The Chelsea icon has been out of work since a brief spell as interim boss with his former club. He has been linked with a host of roles - none of which have come to fruition.

But Lampard is now set to be in front of the camera once again having been handed a role as a pundit for Amazon Prime’s coverage of this season’s Champions League. The former midfielder will be a part of a glittering panel alongside the likes of Clarence Seedorf, Daniel Sturridge and Gael Clichy.

Gabby Logan is set to spearhead the coverage, with Premier League icon Alan Shearer acting as a commentator. Lampard will offer his expert opinion, according to The Sun, having appeared in the competition on 105 occasions as a player, winning it in 2012.

Lampard also oversaw 16 games in the competition after moving into management. Despite that, the competition is going to look slightly different this time around.

The 2024/25 season is the first campaign in UEFA’s new Swiss model, with all of the qualified teams in one big league table, while they will also play eight group games each. The draw for the group games takes place on Thursday 29 August, with the first group ties scheduled for 17-19 September.

In the meantime, Lampard will likely be keeping an eye out for a managerial opportunity. Speaking in June, he said that he was ready to return to coaching.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Some opportunities have come my way, they didn't feel right for the time. So I've kind of taken that decision a bit at times.

"But now I feel ready so we will see what opportunities come up. I'm certainly ready to work. I love doing what I do, so we will see."

Lampard was backed as a possible candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England boss by Gary Lineker earlier this summer. He said: "I think he’s [Lampard] been a bit unlucky in his managerial career in some ways. I think he gets it tactically.

"But I wouldn’t disregard Frank Lampard. I think he tactically gets it. I think the players will respect him immediately. I’m getting ahead of things here... but if you’re going to go English, you go… who else? Eddie Howe? Eddie Howe, possibly?"

The FA are still on the hunt for Southgate’s permanent successor. Lee Carsley has been appointed on an interim basis and will oversee upcoming Nations League clashes with Ireland and Finland.
