Chelsea news: Todd Boehly is still searching for a new permanent manager of Chelsea with Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino all linked to the job

Chelsea are on the hunt for their next permanent manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter in April. Until the end of the 2022/23 season, Frank Lampard has been placed in interim charge to allow co-owners Todd Boehly, and Behdad Eghbali along with Laurence Stewart, Paul Winstanley, Christopher Vivell and other members of the Chelsea hierarchy plenty of time make their decision.

Julian Nagelsmann has been one name closely linked with the vacancy following his surprise sacking from Bayern Munich. The young German coach is appreciated within Stamford Bridge and has a good chance of securing the job given his past relationship with Vivell at RB Leizpig.

Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is another individual well-liked at the club but he is also on the radar of London rivals Tottenham. Following the 2022 World Cup, Enrique left his post as Spain boss, but is ready to get straight back into full-time management.

Mauricio Pochettino is also on the wish list within west London and the former Spurs head coach is keen to work in the Premier League again. Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and sensational returns for Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte or Carlo Ancelotti have also been discussed as possibilities.

Enrique an 'outsider' for role

After being listed as one of the favourites for the vacant Chelsea managerial job, Luis Enrique has now been named as an "outsider" for the role in Todd Boehly's new short list.

As per the Telegraph, Enrique has not been placed among the leading candidates for the position with no further talks currently planned between the two parties. The report further states the former Spain boss is alongside Sporting boss Ruben Amorim in having an outside chance of being appointed.

Pochettino contact

Chelsea have made a fresh approach for Mauricio Pochettino, as revealed by the Telegraph, with the former Tottenham boss potentially going back on a claim made in 2019 that he could never work for the fierce rivals of a club he previously was manager of.

Prior to the appointment of Graham Potter, Pochettino was interviewed by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali with the co-controlling owners left impressed by the Argentine.

After a successful interview last week, the Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea are expected to hold further talks with Julian Nagelsmann.

Although, Enrique being taken out of the leading candidates bracket would hint that Nagelsmann is now the outright favourite, their report notes that insiders have rejected any notion that he is emerging as the favourite yet.

Tottenham make Enrique decision

Chelsea aren't the only London club searching for a new manager as Tottenham are also after an Antonio Conte replacement.

According to the Telegraph, Spurs are planning to make contact with Enrique over their vacant managerial position. Face to face talks were held between the 47-year-old and Chelsea earlier this month.

Amorim talks

Chelsea have held talks with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim regarding their managerial vacancy, according to The Guardian.

The 38-year-old won the Portuguese title with Sporting in 2021 and has helped them impress in Europe this season. Amorim has since been listed as an "outsider" for the job with Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino as the two favourites.

Nagelsmann meets with Chelsea representatives

Julian Nagelsmann met with Chelsea representatives on Thursday, April 13 in a face to face meeting with Sky Sports Germany reporting it was 'very positive' meeting between Chelsea officials and the young German coach

Their report also states that a decision will not be rushed by either party, with Nagelsmann determined to be '100 per cent convinced of the project' on offer at Stamford Bridge..

Enrique meeting in London

On that same day the 52-year-old was later spotted returning to Spain by Spanish outlet Jijantes, where he was asked questions over his time away. The head coach played coy though, claiming he wasn't in London, but rather the Spanish island of Formentera when quizzed on his trip.

If you do the famous haka, I'll answer you," the coach quipped to the reporters when asked about his time in London. "I come from Formentera! It's wonderful, a paradise island." refusing to be drawn on any connection to the Chelsea job and whether he was involved in the reported talks.
